Free Film Friday

The other day a friend and I were talking about Unique Yarns and how it was SO much more than a shop that sells yarn.  Each visit is a little adventure of creativity with new fibers, books, and accessories arriving daily.  The overall feeling in the shop is so welcoming and encouraging, you just never know what fun thing will be happening there.  What will we think of next?

  How about a movie?!?  This Friday, March 2, we will have our very first FREE FILM FRIDAY!  Bring your needlework project and join us from 1:00 - 3:00 pm for a screening of "The Secret".  The Secret has been getting quite a bit of buzz lately, especially since it was featured on Oprah.  We'll watch, and if you feel like staying to share your thoughts, all the better!

Here comes Peter Cottontail

Winter hasn't gone down without a fight this year, but each day brings us closer to bird song, blooming flowers, and EASTER!  April 8th is the day we can expect the Easter Bunny to be delivering baskets of goodies.  Wouldn't it be fun to knit one of these adorable baskets for someone in your life?  My kids are in their twenties, but I'm still going to knit them each a basket using this fast and easy pattern.  We've prepared a grouping of fiber suggestions, but combinations of wool and novelty yarns are endless.  Come in and let us help you make the Easter surprise especially wonderful this year.

Seek Peace!

If you're like most of us, you're always looking for an opportunity to work on your fiber projects.  Doctor's offices, sporting events, even long red lights are viewed as chances to pick up the needles/hook and get in a few rows.  Sometimes, though, finding some quiet, uninterrupted time is a hard thing to do.  The phone rings, the kids need help, the dog is dancing at the door.  The next time you're looking for some peace, come into the shop.   Becky did some pretty extensive research to pick out the perfect chairs for optimum comfort, and let me tell you that comfortable they are and they rock, too! There is even a great big fluffy couch for curling up on. The music is peaceful, the people are friendly and as long as you keep the cell phone on silent, no one will interrupt you as you work on your fiber projects.  There is even help available if you have a question or just need another person's opinion.  Come in any time and enjoy our little corner of comfort.

Hotaru

New in the shop.......Noro Hotaru!!!  Ok, I admit it, I've never met a Noro fiber that I didn't love, and Hotaru is no exception.  Outrageous color with a fun nubby texture will turn any project into a work of art.  It's a cotton/poly mix with 94 yards on the skein.  Also available is Noro Book 21 with patterns written specifically for Noro fibers, including Hotaru. Come in and see for yourself.  You'll find it near the east window with all the rest of the Noro products. Shop soon for best color selection!

   For those of you contemplating a new bag to carry around all your knitting (or anything else) Three Dog Designs has brought in two new bags.  Actually, she brought in three, but one has already sold, so if you've been thinking about getting one of these unique bags, hustle in and have a look.

We've got The Secret!

Have you heard about The Secret?  It's sweeping the world with it's message of personal empowerment and the Law of Attraction.  Yesterday (Thursday) Oprah was overflowing with excitement as she devoted her entire show to The Secret and creating the life you really want.  Guess what?!?  We have the DVD available for purchase at Unique Yarns!  They are on the counter as you check out, but please ask if you don't see them! 

New from Noro!

It's time again for a new and exciting color combination to inspire a new and exciting knitting/crochet project!  This week Nancy put together this luscious grouping of spring color all from Noro.  (I have to confess that I have a HUGE weakness for anything from Noro.)  The multi colored tweed is Noro Tidiori, 60% rayon, 35% nylon, 5% cashmere, 100% beautiful.  Nancy did a great job finding a companion to each colorway in Cash Iroha, 40% silk, 30% lamb's wool, 20% cashmere, 10% nylon.  Be sure to click on the picture to see the image larger.  The colors are so vivid that you just have to get a good look.  I also have it on good authority that a large shipment of new spring/summer fiber from Noro just came in.  More on that in a future post.

   This week we have not one color combination, but two!  Cindy, the color wizard, came up with this regal collection using the gold Quest as inspiration.  We only have a couple of skeins of the Quest in stock, so if you like what you see, come in and make it yours. 

   Winter has spent this week reminding us that we haven't seen the last of her yet.  There is nothing like a fiber project on a cold, snowy day.  Hats, scarves, and mittens are quick knits and there will still be many more days where their warming comfort will be necessary.  Come in and let us help you pick out something to warm the heart of someone you love.  (Valentine's Day is a week away!) 

Pick up that hook and CROCHET!

I remember that my Grandmother was incredibly skilled with a crochet hook.  She could look at a picture of a crocheted item and reproduce it perfectly.  She taught me the crochet basics, but I never really learned how to use those basics to create something beautiful.  I bet there are many of you out there with similar stories.  Well friends, it's time to get out that crochet hook and join the crochet revolution!  Unique Yarns has a brand new crochet teacher and she is just overflowing with crochet enthusiasm!  ROXYLENA is an active member of the Crochet Guild of America, teaches classes, has been crocheting and teaching crochet for over 30 years, and we are so thrilled to have her sharing her passion with all of us.
